World's Largest Winemaker Ernest Gallo dies at 97

Food – Ernest Gallo, the marketing genius who parlayed $5,900 and a wine recipe from the Modesto Public Library into the world's largest winemaking empire, died Tuesday at his home in Modesto. He was 97.

Indeed. Ernest and Julio Gallo were icons in Northern California where I grew up.

Apparently as far back as 1974, the National Institutes of Health knew that it was good for the heart and did everything they could to hide that information for fear of alcohol abuse. Crazy, huh?
